I have rebooted computer and tried restart Cura after making any Cura settings changes with no effect to play button. I believe my computer and video card meets/exceeds system requirements. I want to be able to playback the tool path. The horizontal slider (playback) is not shown. The vertical slider (layer select) is shown. And with DX12, it is very likely that users can keep using their DX11 graphics card (depending on what it is), all what they need is a new OS.Preferences - General - Force layer view compatibility mode: unchecked

Exception to that would be Vista because I think with a service pack update DX10 was upgraded to DX11. With DX, a new OS (and graphic card if it is unable to support the newest DX) every few years. But no need for a new OS (exception Vista DX10 to DX11)

So to me it seems, staying up to date with OpenGL will cost you a new graphic card every year, if the current graphic card can't support the new spec (unless the company that made the card is choosing to not update the driver to support the new spec and are trying to force people to buy the newest one).

Just looked it up and I see the performance issues of DX11, but I don't know if DX12 is really a dead end when it hasn't even been released yet and how people will react to Windows 10 (so far I have heard that people (on this forum) like 10).Īs for OpenGL keeping that up to date seems like a better decision for SCS since they are working with Windows, Linux, and Mac, but there is a new OpenGL Specification every year, and I don't know if a graphic card that is said to work with 4.3 will work with 4.5. Thus the support for OpenGL 3.3 and up will be higher by the time this feature comes out. It seems that OpenGL will maintain reverse compatiablity so there may not be a problem there for older graphic cards (I don't really know). Implementing OpenGL support will take time. Hardware vendors, the people who make GPUs, are responsible.

The OpenGL rendering system is carefully specified to make hardware implementations allowable. It defines the API through which a client application can control this system. Since these API's are now focusing on efficiency, if SCS were ever to update to only DX 12 or OpenGL 4.5 (if they can) would the current game or future games be reverse compatible with older graphics cards that don't support the new API? OpenGL is the name for the specification that describes the behavior of a rasterization-based rendering system.
